Boards & Notes
Boards and notes are the two primary building blocks on the canvas. Boards give you kanban-style task management, while notes are freeform text cards for ideas and documentation.
Creating Boards
A board is a kanban card with columns and tasks. Create one in any of these ways:
Toolbar button
Click the Board button in the bottom-center toolbar.
Keyboard shortcut
Press ⌘B to instantly create a new board at the center of your viewport.
Right-click menu
Right-click on an empty area of the canvas and select New Card from the context menu.
Creating Notes
A note is a standalone text card — perfect for ideas, reminders, or quick documentation.
Toolbar button
Click the Note button (N) in the bottom-center toolbar.
Keyboard shortcut
Press ⌘N to create a new note at the center of your viewport.
Right-click menu
Right-click on an empty area and select New Note.
Board vs. Note
Understanding when to use each type:
Board
A kanban-style card with columns and tasks. Use boards to track work items, assign tasks, and manage workflow.
Note
A standalone text card. Use notes for brainstorming, documentation, meeting notes, or any freeform content.
Positioning
Drag any board or note anywhere on the canvas. There are no grid constraints — place items exactly where they make sense for your workflow. Positions are saved automatically and synced across all team members in real time.
Resizing
Double-click a board or note to select it. Resize handles appear on the edges and corners — drag them to make the item larger or smaller. The content inside reflows automatically to fit the new dimensions.
Custom Colors
Both boards and notes support custom header colors. Click the color indicator in the header area to open the color picker and choose from the available palette. Colors help you visually categorize items — for example, blue for engineering, green for design, orange for marketing. Colors adapt automatically in dark mode.
Plan Limits
The number of boards and notes you can create depends on your workspace plan.
| Plan | Boards | Columns per board | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 2 | 10 | 5 |
| Starter | 5 | 25 | 10 |
| Pro | 15 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Max | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
Note Stacks
Stacks let you group related notes together into a single, compact unit on the canvas. Instead of scattering individual notes across the board, stack them to keep your workspace tidy.
Creating a Stack
Drag one note onto another to create a stack. The two notes merge into a layered card showing the stack title, a count of notes inside, and colored dots representing each note. You can continue dragging additional notes onto the stack to add more.
Expanding & Collapsing
Click a stack to expand it. The individual notes fan out below the stack card, each displaying a preview of its content with a folded-corner (dog ear) accent. Click again or click on the canvas background to collapse the stack back into its compact form.
Removing Notes from a Stack
Click to unstack
Expand the stack, then click on any note tab to remove it from the stack and place it as an independent note beside the stack.
Drag to unstack
Expand the stack, then drag any note tab out — the note is placed exactly where you drop it on the canvas.
Dissolving a Stack
To break a stack apart entirely, hover over the stack and click the dissolve button in the header. All notes are restored as independent notes on the canvas, arranged in a staggered layout so they don't overlap.
Stack Title
Each stack has an editable title. Click on the title text to rename it — useful for labeling groups like "Research", "Meeting Notes", or "Sprint Ideas". If a stack is reduced to one note, the stack dissolves automatically and the remaining note becomes independent.
Layering (Z-Index)
When items overlap, the selected item automatically comes to the front. Click on any board or note to bring it above other items. This makes it easy to work with overlapping elements without rearranging your entire canvas layout.
Tip
Use ⌘B for boards and ⌘N for notes to create items instantly without reaching for the toolbar.
