Your First Board

Boards are the heart of is.team. Each board is a kanban-style surface with columns and tasks that lives on your infinite canvas. Let's create one and put it to work.

Creating a Board

There are two ways to create a board on the canvas:

  1. 1

    From the toolbar

Click the + button in the bottom toolbar and select Board. A new board appears at the center of your viewport.

  2. 2

    With a keyboard shortcut

Press ⌘B on macOS or Ctrl+B on Windows/Linux to instantly create a board wherever you're looking on the canvas.

Once created, grab the board's header to drag it anywhere on the canvas. Position boards side by side, in rows, or however your workflow makes sense.

Default Columns

Every new board comes with three columns out of the box:

To Do

Tasks that haven't been started yet. This is your backlog.

In Progress

Tasks currently being worked on by you or your teammates.

Done

Completed tasks. Move items here when they're finished.

Adding Tasks

Tasks are the individual items of work inside a column. Adding them is fast:

  1. 1

    Click the + button

Each column has a + button. Click it to start creating a new task in that column.

  2. 2

    Type a title

Enter a short, descriptive title for the task. Keep it clear enough that anyone on the team understands what needs to be done.

  3. 3

    Press Enter

Hit Enter to save the task. It appears immediately in the column, ready to be assigned, detailed, or moved.

Moving Tasks Between Columns

Drag and drop tasks between columns to update their status. Grab a task, drag it to another column, and release. The change is saved automatically and synced in real time to everyone in the workspace.

You can also reorder tasks within the same column by dragging them up or down. The sort order persists across sessions.

Customizing Columns

The default three columns are just a starting point. You can fully customize them:

Rename

Double-click a column header to edit its name. Call it "Review", "QA", "Blocked" — whatever fits your process.

Reorder

Drag column headers left or right to rearrange the order. Your workflow, your layout.

Add New

Click the "Add Column" button at the end of the board to create additional columns for more granular workflows.

Connecting Boards

One of is.team's unique features is the ability to connect boards visually on the canvas. Connections help you define workflows and dependencies across boards.

  1. 1

    Hover the board edge

Move your cursor to the edge of a board. A connection handle appears.

  2. 2

    Drag to another board

Click and drag from the handle to another board on the canvas. Release to create the connection.

  3. 3

    Label the connection

Right-click the connection arrow to add a label describing the relationship — for example, "feeds into" or "blocks".

Board Limits per Plan

The number of boards you can create in a single workspace depends on your plan:

Free

1 board. Enough to try out the basics.

Starter

Up to 3 boards. Separate concerns across a few surfaces.

Pro

Up to 10 boards. Build complex workflows with connected boards.

Max

Up to 30 boards. For large-scale project management.

Tip

Press ⌘J on macOS or Ctrl+J on Windows/Linux to fit all boards into view. This is a quick way to get an overview of your entire canvas.
